The best way to overcome past memories is only by living new experiences and creating new memories. Before we race others its important that we race ourselves and that means overtaking where our last memories ended and going ahead. Nothing is a failure for life, it is just the first or nth iteration of failure beyond which there is success. The willingness to fall and get up and take a go at it again distinguishes achievers from non-achievers. We are wired to think in this cu
If our tears help us achieve our dreams, we won’t regret it. Each of us have demons to process from our past. The bad, the ugly, the horrendous. We can either look at it as something that makes our life miserable and limits the things that we can achieve or we can look at it as something that enables us to grasp things that no other can. We are all unique in the things that have happened to us. Our experiences, our pains, have carved our hearts like no other. We process dream
Trust is probably the single most important ingredient in loving. Loving = Trusting + Caring Be it your work or a person. One can start with either, ‘Trusting’ or ‘Caring’ and then eventually add the other but both of them are essential to reach the state of ‘Loving’. If I care enough about a person but I can’t trust them, I can never be in Love with them. Such a relationship revolves around responsibility. Conversely, if I trust a person but never put the effort to care for
The virtual space is to your mind what the digital space is to your body. If you have a lot of clutter in the room, you not only find it functionally difficult to manoeuver through it but it also affects your mind. The same is with virtual space. If you have a lot of information clutter in your virtual space, it not only affects your capability to manoeuver through your tasks and thoughts but it has an indirect effect on the functioning of your physical self. We take great pa
Solitude is the work out, loneliness is the body pain that one gets out of it. When starting out, small periods of solitude can bring out the pain of loneliness. But like a work out, solitude can be extremely healthy for the mind. It has benefits that one cannot find in the company of others. The lengths of solitude are best increased gradually. The idea is to not avoid loneliness altogether but not get in a situation where it can overwhelm the mind entirely. A body writhing
Choice is not about doing but about not doing. Minimalism is about unencumbering ourselves with generalised expectations. In any given point of time one can choose to do one from a million tasks. Its a matter of taking away the things that do not serve us and focusing on the ones that do. We often take long winded routes to reach the destination thats in line of sight. We end up doing things that we consider are expected of us. We fail to question our actions and fall prey to
Often times we tend to categorize our tasks into priorities. This is good for attending to more important things first as an organization skill towards productivity. But somehow we also tend to categorize tasks mentally into priorities for their value. While this is great to choose what should and should not be pursued it can be detrimental to think of one task as less important than the other while you are in the act of executing it. For example, if I know sketching daily is
We commend some people for their achievements but we cannot agree with the entirety of their personality which has made them achieve them in the first place. Actions and the mind are inter-twined. It is easy, from the outset, to separate the achiever from her/his achievement and diss the one and praise the other. It is easy to selectively say we desire a certain achievement and not consider what it takes to achieve it. Achievements are just by-products of a lived experience.
A small note on Anxiety that I’ve devised for myself to get over it in the moment when I feel it taking control over me Think only of the next link in the chain and donot jump forward When the mind is jumping from possibility to possibility there are many demons that we create in our mind that can paralyze us and disallow that one thing that is needed for us to get through it, ‘doing’. Doing our work, taking our steps to confront the problems, moving in the direction we desir
Am in Naddi, a village in upper Dharamsala and the night skies are beautiful out here. After some research on how to shoot stars at night, I came across this app called Stellarium, which allows you to see the sky through your phone and see what star or planet you are looking at. I’ve never bothered much about understanding what those stars are called as I felt somehow it would be good to just enjoy its beauty and not go on a naming, identifying spree. But yesterday it was qui
The last rays of the sun shone the mountains a bright orange last evening. The clouds danced in front of it, taking some of the rays in its foggy bosom. While all along, the cicadas are persistent in their song.
Who you are, what you think, feel, and do, what you love - is the sum of what you focus on - Winifred Gallagher (Rapt) As a creator I’ve often felt that what we consume the most is also what we are inclined to create. This is a minuscule observation in comparison with Gallagher’s but something that is directly relevant to the creative process. The reason there is such enthusiasm about creating films when one is in film school is because consciously or unconsciously one is sur
A person who has grown habitual to mocking, imprisons himself by his words of derision. The words he uses to elevate the failings of others create a colossal fear of failing inside of him. Driving him numb towards any possibility of exploration and thus freedom.
Some reflections from Austin Kleon’s discussion with Rob Walker Writing is crystallizations of thoughts in a particular time We often tend to think of the written word to be relevant for eternity. But in fact every written word is a thought that is relevant depending on the context of the time. With time and situations, thoughts change and the written word can lose its efficacy or relevancy. Caring for something, you can fall in love with it. We like to think that we need to
Since I read the astounding mountain adventure book, Beyond Possible by Nimsdai Purja, I’ve gotten interested in knowing more about high alpine mountaineering. In recent news, Mingma G has summited the true summit of Manaslu with his Sherpa and client team from Imagine Nepal. One of the strongest climbers in the community, he has shared a video to justify his claim. Manaslu has been shrouded in mystery and controversy for quite some time as many teams have taken their clients
As I write this, somewhere, a cloud is being born, as the sun kisses the oceans. It will go through infancy and trials and tribulations all through until it condenses and makes its way back into the soil creating life wherever it flows. Meanwhile, a seed carried away from its parent by an unforeseen circumstance made its way to a far-off land. It thrives in the company of new friends, much to take and much to give than its thought could have ever anticipated. A tree blooms to
